Gridiron Classic and the Fright of My Life

Tonight we went to the football scrimmage, the Gridiron Classic at Tulsa Union's football stadium. I every year I sit on the chairs down front because nobody ever sits there during this event. This is the third year in a row we sat there.

But tonight moments after I took this picture my son Christopher (right) sat down and the platform and rolled through the gap in the rail, falling almost 6 feet onto the AstroTurf.

I looked down afraid and saw he had fallen on his side. I quickly jumped down to get him. Fortunately he was shaken, but not hurt. He cried a while. But he was okay. I'm very glad he was fine, but I felt horrible about it. I made sure I told him that this was the reason I wanted him to sit in the chairs and not run around. I hope he learns!

How can I make sure I am individually shepherding my children?

How can I make sure I am individually shepherding my children?

This was an awesome article for pastors who need to put shepherding their families first before shepherding the House of God.

Organizing the House!

Okay, so I've finally gotten motivated to organize, throw away, and clean. I'm glad that we have bunk beds in the boys room. We decided to put them back to being bunk beds since we let Christopher sleep in the guest bedroom anyway so that the boys won't wake each other up in the middle of the night anyway. The ladder is in the closet, so they cannot venture up into the top bunk for fun, then fall out.
One major advantage, of course, is that there is now space again to put the train table into their room, along with most of their other toys. Now they can comfortably play in their own room. With the shade up during the day it is well lit and welcoming. I think they like it. They played in there for quite a while today.
I'm glad we made that decision. This end of the house looks neater. Plus a lot of the toys are out of the living room.
Here is a list of projects I need to accomplish.

  1. Sort through toys: Yes, this has become a problem because we've tended to accumulate cheap kids meal toys that we need to just throw away. Hey, one way to conserve petroleum. Ban all kids meal toys from the surface of the earth! This will save in plastics and crude oil. DONE!
  2. Build shelves in the boys' room--In progress. The finish I used did not go well (due to my inexperience with using a one-step approach called "Polyshades" by Minwax. I must sand off what I did and re-stain. I am going to ignore the polyurethane process since a simple stain will seal and protect. Polyurethane is really only to add another hard protective coating which I don't think I need for simple shelves.
  3. Stuff to fix:
    1. Get rid of dog door on the utility room back entrance. Block remove it and block it off with MDF, then prime it. This is my quick fix until I can afford simply to replace that door.
    2. Baseboards in the hallway! It's a long story that I won't tell you.
    3. Folding doors in the hallway and the guest bedroom. Three of these are broken and need to be repaired. DONE!
    4. Sagging shelves in the garage. I spaced them too wide. Now the books on them are sagging the shelves down. I need to cut some boards to support the middle of those shelves. I suppose if I was one of those bad contractors guilty of shoddy work I could always ask the guy from Homes on Homes to fix that. He would just tear out my bad work and build me another garage I suppose. Maybe I should call him.
  4. Set up my drill press. I found a drill press stand at a garage sale for only $5. Yes, this was a steal because I almost bought a similar item from Lowe's for around $50. I'm sure glad I didn't buy that. DONE!
  5. Just do an overall going through clutter in the house, and decide what can be thrown, garage saled, etc. I need to do the three sheet system from Clean Sweep. Living Room in progress!
  6. Go through my old theological books from seminary and decide what I can try to sell on craigslist or eBay.
Okay, so my work is cut out for me.

Something Christopher Would Like!

I really think Christopher would like this beach towel I found at the Universal Textiles website.
